Hatteria Labs

About

What you see is the whole company.

Hatteria Labs is two people in Plzeň who measure what can be removed from a language model without breaking it, and build software on whatever survives the test.

Who we are

Hatteria Labs is a two-person company based in Plzeň, Czech Republic. Radek Mužík and Miloslav Sklenička founded it in August 2026 as a place where researching the internal structure of language models sits next to building software they run themselves.

Research and products are not two departments here — there is no headcount for that. The same two people who measure what a transformer can lose without breaking also run the servers Torumata, AIDJ, and Slidify run on.

The infrastructure underneath — Docker, Traefik, Keycloak, PostgreSQL, MinIO — is built and operated in-house. That is a choice, not a necessity: running your own authentication and storage is how you find out how a research result actually behaves in production.

From research to product

Research and products stand on the same discipline, not the same codebase. Our study of shared functional bases ran nine escalating tests against a single question — how much of a transformer is redundant — and ended in a split verdict: no sharing in the raw weights, real sharing in functional space but reachable only through fine-tuning, and usable on attention layers while MLP layers resist it outright. Of the compression methods the project has tried, three survived: per-channel 8-bit weight quantisation, per-head KV-cache quantisation, and merging pairs of layers.

What is left after a measurement like that is not dramatic, but it is dependable — and dependable is what software needs once other people run their business on it. Torumata, AIDJ, and Slidify do not run on the research results directly, but on the same procedure behind them: measure first, claim second.

Why Hatteria

Hatteria is an older genus name for the tuatara, a reptile whose body plan has barely changed in 200 million years, which carries a parietal "third eye" on top of its skull, and which lives past a hundred on a metabolism that is in no hurry. We did not pick the name for the evolutionary prestige — we picked it for the pace. Most of our measurements take weeks and most of them end in a rejected hypothesis. A company named after an animal that never rushes is at least hard-pressed to forget that.
